Tussen 1983 en 2000 verschenen er 6 lp/cd’s van The The, met als constante factor Matt Johnson. De afgelopen 20 jaar verdween Matt Johnson uit het openbare leven en werkte hij voornamelijk aan muziek voor films en documentaires.
Vrijdag 6 september verscheen er voor het eerst in 25 jaar een nieuw studio album, Ensoulment, en verdomd het is een best plaatje geworden.
Misschien minder zwartgallig dan in de eighties en nineties, maar het is nog steeds geen polonaise in The The-land.
